The Story of A Dhangethi Tropical Vacation by Shajin DC
Sometimes the right vacation is a life changer. I was very fed up with working 6 days a week sitting in front of a computer for a corporate company. So, I took a week off from my company for my very first international trip, a five days trip to Maldives, Dhangethi Island to meet Friend in Maldives- Sachin, my lost friend from the 2013’s college days. I contacted him through his Instagram account and sent my confirmed flight tickets and all he asked to bring along with me was some Christmas decoration hangings and a pack of incense sticks for the positive vibes.
The very next day I flew from Kochi to Maldives and I reached Dhangethi island by evening and met my lost buddy friend in Maldives in the middle of the Indian ocean. What a beautiful day! We walked together in the beach with the new friends from the island catching the golden hour, sharing the nostalgic stories from the good old days, explaining the tropical sunny side of life, people and the population in the island, low tides and high tides, crystal clear turquoise waters and the life beneath it.
I left my shoes in the hotel room on day one and started walking barefoot with Friend in Maldives to feel the touch of mother earth. The bioluminescence on the beach side makes anyone feel like a child and the clear sky and the stars tell the story about the people you love.
It was my birthday the next day and these guys arranged a watermelon for me to cut instead of a creamy cake to make it a perfect tropical birthday celebration in middle of the night. The next day we went for a sailing trip to the sand bank with the best human being in Dhangethi, Nadey the wind.
While sailing in the Catamaran I got that hit in my medulla oblongata, I felt like mother nature was holding me in her hands. After that he took me on a jet ski ride and my soul left my body on that day. What a perfect birthday gift. The next days were also good and memorable, I went for the snorkelling session and dive trip with the newly met buddies from the island and visited one nearest island. We decorated the place with the Christmas hangings, it was late when I came to realize that I have to leave back to my home country the next day. So, I asked whether Sachin is free for the upcoming days and cancelled my flight tickets. Somehow, I extended my leaves from the company and at last the 5 days trip ended up as a 28 days trip with a lot good memories to think for the next 100 years.
Luckily, I was also able to swim with the World’s largest fish Whale Shark, The Manta Rays, Dolphins, Flying fish, Stingray, Sharks and a lot more. I was also able to spend a night on a $10k live aboard, spending rest of the golden hours in the sandbank watching the canvas of the sky, the shooting stars, the clear sky and the 5 shades of blue in ocean and playing music, fishing and lot more.
We played football on most days with the boys from the island, climbing coconut trees, cooking food, sharing it with the local people. What else do a man need to be happy! While the trip was coming to an end, I started to feel quite sad about leaving this beautiful place and my beloved ‘friend’ in Maldives. I was literally crying in the boat back to the airport after saying goodbye to my friend after spending 28 days in paradise.
This trip has made me realise that I was just working as another machine in the multinational corporate company world. The self-realisation of fact that It’s time for me to run of my comfort zone. So, I quit my job from the corporate world and went to the Maldives islands to live the rest of my life with the pure gold hearted human beings, finish my dive course and learn new things. The never-ending walk on the islands with Friend in Maldives has taught me that the joy of happiness comes from nature, it can be found anywhere in the world and not only from human relationships. Thanks for being a lifesaver.
